Born in Hockwold cum Wilton [Thetford Q3-1896 4B:354] 3rd son of Albert Edward and Julia Sabina GREEN (née JOHNSON)
1901 census... Frankie, aged 5, was living in Mill Lane, Hockwold cum Wilton with his father Albert Edward. GREEN [37] a woodsman; his mother Julia [34]; brother Charles [13] ordinary agricultural labourer; brother Frederic [11]; sister Gwendolin[8]; brother George [7]; sister Olive [1]. The entire family were born in Hockwold cum Wilton 1911 census...Aged 15, Frank is living in Hockwold with his father ( a forester), mother, brothers Charles (forester) , Frederic (farm labourer) Albert[6] and Robert [3], with sisters Olive Pearl, Daisy Cora Irene [8] and Laura [4]. All ten children of this marriage had survived by 1911. The pension card has his family still at Mill Lane, Hockwold. |

Harelbeke New British Cemetery is a concentration cemetery started after the Armistice with bodies brought in from the surrounding area.
Unfortunately the German records do not show exactly where they found Frank but they recorded his death as 10th November 1917 and they buried him in
grave 252 in the German Military Cemetery in GITS, just north of Roeselare, Belgium. When the CGWC concentrated the graves they used the GB List, German cross and clothing to
identify Frank and re interred him at Harlebeke. All the graves were moved from GITS after the war and the site is now on a new estate. The 8th Battalion suffered only 6 deaths that entire week, 4 buried in scattered cemeteries around Ypres and 2 on the Tyne Cot Memorial. |
